Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

The PURC Journal of Law (PURCJOL) recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are becoming increasingly integrated into legal research and academic publishing. The Journal encourages the responsible and ethical use of AI while maintaining that all scholarly work must reflect originality, academic integrity, transparency, and human intellectual contribution. Authors remain solely responsible for the accuracy, authenticity, and ethical standards of their submissions.

1. Authors may use AI-assisted tools only for limited purposes such as language improvement, grammar correction, formatting, reference management, data visualization, or translation. AI should not replace the author's own legal analysis, reasoning, or scholarly contribution.
2. Any use of AI in preparing the manuscript must be clearly disclosed in an appropriate section of the paper (such as the Acknowledgements or Methodology), including the name of the AI tool and the purpose for which it was used.
3. Authors are solely responsible for verifying the accuracy, completeness, originality, and authenticity of all AI-assisted content. The Journal will hold authors not AI tools accountable for the submitted work.
4. Artificial Intelligence tools, chatbots, or automated software cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility, accountability, or copyright ownership of scholarly work.
5. AI must not be used to fabricate, manipulate, falsify, or misrepresent research data, legal authorities, judicial decisions, statutes, citations, references, images, or any other scholarly content.
6. Authors using AI for research support or data analysis must independently verify all outputs, legal interpretations, citations, and references before submission. Any inaccuracies or fabricated information remain the responsibility of the author(s).
7. Authors must ensure that the use of AI complies with applicable copyright laws, intellectual property rights, confidentiality obligations, and the ethical standards of academic publishing. Confidential or unpublished material must not be uploaded to AI platforms without proper authorization.
8. Editors and reviewers shall not upload confidential manuscripts, peer-review reports, or unpublished research to publicly available AI systems if doing so could compromise confidentiality or intellectual property rights.
9. The Journal may use AI-assisted technologies under editorial supervision for administrative purposes such as plagiarism detection, language enhancement, metadata generation, or workflow support. Final editorial and publication decisions will always be made exclusively by the Editorial Board and human reviewers.
10. Failure to disclose the material use of AI, misuse of AI tools, submission of AI-generated fabricated content, or any violation of this policy may result in rejection of the manuscript, withdrawal of publication, retraction of the article, or other actions in accordance with the Journal's publication ethics.
